Deavron Dailey

Deavron “The Urban Explorer” Dailey is a Detroit native and Pittsburgh based visual artist. Deavron has nearly 15 years of professional experience in art design and production. A wide variety of artistic media is used to create his work such as screen printing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, writing, and more. A number of these forms of artistic media often find their way into one project. Deavron is inspired by specific locations, buildings, and landscape details. He finds great pleasure in determining which form of artistic media accurately depicts the feeling of interest, mood, or inspiration that was evoked within him. Maps, charts, and diagrams regularly find their way into his work as well. Deavron hopes that each piece stimulates dialogue that transcends the artwork and enters the realm of social consciousness.

He also seeks to inspire a renewed sense of appreciation of our surroundings, and encourage creativity in others through the creation of vibrant and informative artwork. Seeking out and engaging with unfamiliar communities and art production spaces is incorporated into Deavron’s art practice in order to weave new networks and offer opportunities for collaboration. In the past 8 years Deavron’s art practice has evolved to include public art and he has created close to ten medium or large scale public artworks to date. In 2017 Deavron created his largest piece thus far. It is called “The Arms of East Liberty,” which is a ceramic slab painting mounted in a stainless steel “skeleton.” It weighs over 3,000 lbs. and is attached to the street-facing side of the Duolingo building located at 5906 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, PA.

“One of the ways is to use art to spread messages of positivity and also to inform where to find resources.”
